Government Leaders Must Have a Guiding Vision I would like use this space to recommend a truly inspirational place to visit. It is Springwood Mansion, the childhood of the American president Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The 32nd president of the United States, FDR was truly one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen. He lifted the country out the Great Depression of the 1930s, and he is famous for his leadership in bringing the United States and Allied Forces to victory during World War Two. He also achieved many great accomplishments not widely realized by the general public, such as establishment of the social security system, law governing the stock exchange and other progressive programs under his policy of the “New Deal” In reflecting on the achievements of this great American president, I cannot help but compare his philosophies of government with those of Korean leaders. As a proud Korean citizen, l am disappointed by the frequent rewriting of history, which gives us an inaccurate map with which to chart future. Government leaders must unite to figure out how to solve this crisis wisely. They must make sure that they select the most talented officials whocan set the country on a path lit by great vision, with efficiency, accuracy, and fairness as the primary goals. Advisors to the president must recognize that they play a critical role in the future of the country. Their capabilities, their honesty, their sense of history and equality can directly affect the success or failure of our nation. There is economic solution that can be a cure-all for market economy problems the Korean economy is not an open economy and this has drawn criticism from around the world. The Korean economy which grew so fast was once billed as one of Asia’s economic tigers, though it now shows signs of weakness. it has lost momentum because of a falling population of workers, the back wardness of economic policies, the government’s refusal to open the markets, and a lack of efficiency ibn the market economy. Korean people need to be aware of the problems, inefficiencies, and corruption within the government and demand a change. We deserve better. it is also necessary for many Korean people to re-evaluate their priorities and determine what is important and what is trivial. For example, the current emphasis on wearing brand name clothes, such as Ralph Lauren or Gucci, or to carry the right kind of handbag, such as Louis Vuitton or Prada, or to wear the right kind of shoes, such as Jimmy Choo or Manolo Blahniks, this kind of emphasis, is simply too materialistic a superficial. The wealthy in our country have a tendency to make money quickly and then spend it just as quickly. There is a phrase in the United States, easy-com, easy-go, that describes this tendency. The amount of money that anyone makes should not be a measure of his stature in society. What distinguishes a human being is what he carries in his head and in his heart, not simply what he wears, what kind of home in which he lives, or what kind of car he drives. People who may not have as much money are often struck by jealousy,or the desire copy what they think is fashionable or wonderful. This kind of behavior is wrong. If people would fully use their brains and think about what is important, they would understand that they need to revise way of thinkingand modify their behavior. As a whole the Korean people have to elevate their ways of thinkingand become more thoughtful and sophisticated in their pursuits. This can be accomplished through higher levels of education. We need to elevate the entire population in terms of intellectual enlightenment. This will bring about more prosperity, happiness and success for all ofthe people, rather than just a select few who have leamed how to manipulate the system and work it to their best advantage.Against this backdrop, we need leaders who carry a great vision for our nation, people who can carry us into the future with a sense of destiny than marks our place in the world with dignity and moral truth.I would like to believe that we will soon a president who will go down in history as one of the greatest ever known, someone who will historical statur and respect of FDROne place where you can get a sense of the man and how he was shaped is his birthplace, the home where he was raised. lf you ever have a chance to visit the eastern part of the United States, or to venture near the Hudson River in New York, l would like to suggest you not miss a place where you will learn a lot and come back changed.
