As the status of Seonbi (scholars) grew into life became governed by the strict rules of Confucianism. Scholars were regarded as the conscientious voice of the time. They set the standards for intelligence and even defined the sprit of the life. Even though there were societal difference from the Samguk Dynasty to the Chosun Dynasty that followed, scholars played higher moral values and achieved greater academic accomplishments, refusing to be ruled by their desires and emotions. Scholars were not just at the top of the social order but also served as role models for all society.
